If Surat is famous for textiles in general, Tiruppur is known worldwide for knitwear, T-shirts, and cotton garment manufacturing. The city is home to thousands of knitting, dyeing, fabric, and garment units.
For anyone building a cotton apparel brand, Tiruppur is almost impossible to ignore.
Discovering Tiruppur
Our experience in Tiruppur was very different from Surat.
The city lives and breathes garments.
Everywhere we looked, we saw:
Knitting units
Dyeing facilities
Fabric warehouses
Garment factories
Export houses
The entire ecosystem revolves around apparel manufacturing.
It quickly became clear why so many brands source cotton fabrics from this region. Community discussions and industry conversations frequently point to Tiruppur as a major hub for knitted cotton fabrics and garment production.
Meeting the Right People
Just like Surat, Tiruppur also required patience.
Not every meeting led to results.
However, after multiple visits and conversations, we met people who genuinely wanted to help rather than simply make a sale.

Despite language differences, communication never became a barrier.
In fact, one memorable experience was realizing that if we wanted to do business successfully in Tamil Nadu, learning at least a few Tamil phrases could be surprisingly helpful.
